SCOTTSDALE, ARIAZ. – Troon Executive Vice President Mark Chapleski will retire at the end of July, following 24 years with the golf and club management leader. Chapleski has led the Troon International division since 2017, growing the company’s international portfolio to 40-plus facilities in 20 countries.

“In leading our international efforts, Mark has certainly left his fingerprints across the globe, growing the sport and the locations where golf can be enjoyed,” said Bruce Glasco, Troon’s Chief Operating Officer. “Mark’s passion for the game is surpassed only by his compassion for people and those providing first-class service to our many members and guests. While I am sad to see him retire, I know he will be making an impact in whichever community he settles in.”

Prior to joining the business side of the golf industry, Chapleski enjoyed a successful collegiate golf career at Miami University in Ohio, where he earned All-American honours during his junior year. After a brief stint on the PGA TOUR in the mid-80s, the Michigan native hung up his golf spikes to pursue a career in club management. He entered the PGA program while working at Yuma Country Club in Arizona and became a PGA of America member. After serving as an assistant golf professional at public and private facilities in the Southern California desert, Chapleski moved to Hawaii to work at Ko Olina Golf Club. He would later be promoted to Director of Golf Operations at Ko Olina, working nearly 10 years at the property.

In 1999, Chapleski joined Troon as the Director of Operations in Asia as part of the company’s start-up team in Japan. Five years later in 2004, Chapleski was appointed Area Managing Director for Troon Middle East and relocated to Dubai. In 2017, Chapleski became President of Troon’s International division, a role in which he oversaw the division’s growth and helped expand golf and golf opportunities across the globe. He was promoted to his current position of Executive Vice President in July 2021.

“Throughout my time at Troon, growing the game of golf has always been my number one passion. I have always believed that the work we do is having a positive and life-changing impact not just for the properties we oversee and the countries they operate in but most importantly of all, our colleagues,” said Chapleski. “The growth we have experienced has been nothing short of phenomenal. When I started in late 1999, I believe we had just under 40 golf courses, and the only international ones were a few in Australia. Today we are at 750+ worldwide and 40+ in the International region. As part of that expansion, we have been fortunate to have been involved in several projects that we were either first in market or new in a very immature market and realizing the immediate positive impact we are able to make in these locations is very satisfying. Bringing a completely different level of operation and event experience to countries like Morocco, Egypt, India, Czech Republic, Cambodia and the UAE, to name a few, has been very rewarding for all of us in the International division. It has been a privilege to work alongside some of the most forward thinking, creative and devoted Troon associates both in the field and in our office.”

LOS ANGELES – Sensible Weather, a climate technology and insurance company focused on helping consumers understand climate and change the way they interact with the weather, announced that it has closed a strategic investment to extend the company’s Weather Guarantee coverage to PGA-affiliated golf facilities in partnership with EP Golf Ventures.

As part of the new partnership, PGA Members will now have access to Sensible Weather’s innovative Weather Guarantee protection, eliminating the burden of issuing rain checks and giving golfers the option to protect against the risk of volatile weather when booking tee times and lodging packages online. Sensible Weather quantifies and manages weather risk for golfers, offering Weather Guarantees to automatically reimburse tee time and other travel-related costs in the case of rain, extreme temperatures or other undesirable weather during a round. The service is designed to streamline operations for PGA Members, increase golfer satisfaction, decrease last-minute cancellations, avoid “rain check” issuance, and generate incremental revenue for golf facilities.

EP Golf Ventures, a new investment partnership created by the PGA of America and Elysian Park Ventures, the private investment arm affiliated with the Los Angeles Dodgers ownership group, made the strategic investment. This is alongside a newly-formed partnership between Sensible Weather and the PGA of America.

The additional capital will allow Sensible Weather to continue rapid development of its proprietary climate data and risk analytics platform, and expand its popular Weather Guarantee protection to golf and other outdoor sports booking channels.

“The PGA of America is thrilled to bring Sensible Weather to PGA facilities nationwide,” said PGA of America Chief Innovation Officer Arjun Chowdri. “The weather is something out of our control and affects the lives of our PGA Professionals and their facilities every day. Having a company and product that is good for our Members, their facilities and golf consumers is an all-around winning formula.”

“With climate increasingly impacting outdoor experiences like golf, Sensible’s Weather Guarantee service offers golfers peace of mind when booking reservations online," said Nick Cavanaugh, Ph.D., Sensible Weather CEO & Founder. “Golfers who opt to purchase a Weather Guarantee with their golf vacations and tee time bookings can rest assured that they’ll be able to easily recoup their costs when a few hours of unwanted rain interferes with their round. We are excited to have the support of EP Golf Ventures and to partner with the PGA of America to create new revenue streams for golf facilities, while at the same time enhancing the on-course experience for golfers.”

Sensible Weather’s first product, the Weather Guarantee, is built upon cutting-edge satellite imagery and climate analytics developed from over a decade’s worth of research in industry and academia.

Whether for entertainment, primary motivation or secondary activity, golf attracts thousands of travellers every year. Considering this enthusiasm for a sport, many global organisations and tour operators have started arranging golf tours, which is not only boosting the sport but also creating opportunities for tourism in that particular place.

Golf is not only a revenue generator sport, but also an opportunity creator for travel and hospitality services such as hotels, restaurants, cars and airlines. Various countries have also recognised that golf tourists tend to spend more than average tourists and are therefore investing a lot to reap the benefits of extra foreign revenue.

Golf Tourism: Benefits
Golf is more than just a game. One of the most important benefits of golf tourism is that it generates a hefty amount of revenue. Golf is assumed as a game of rich people. Naturally, golf lovers do not think twice while spending money on the game and on hospitality services pertaining to the game. In developing countries like India, golf tourism is proving a boon for revenue generation.

It creates economic growth through hotels, restaurants and retail establishments. Apart from its economic benefits golf tourism can create new tourism destinations and can also help develop new infrastructure. It also creates good opportunity to increase community support for sport and sport events.

Golf tourism also attracts high end visitors, especially repeaters and this increases community support for sports and sport events. It also improves the organisational, marketing and bidding capabilities of the community.

Golf Tourism: Drivers and Restraints
Increasing per capita income globally is improving the economic status of people. Nature of jobs has already changed and people are getting an increased amount of leisure time available for activities such as golf tourism. Improvement in technology has led to more disposable time for many people, therefore increased amount of money and improvement in technology especially in western societies are motivating people to engage in golf. This particular factor is driving the global golf tourism sector.

Further, with easy mode of transport like airlines, travellers are able to move to various locations to take part in golf events. They not only participate in the sport but also roam around the city where the golf sport is held, which creates robust development in the sector of golf tourism.

The changing tendency of travellers is also responsible for the growth in golf tourism. Travellers who would previously have not considered golf as a sport option, are now seeking to participate independently at their own level.

The only factor hampering the growth of golf tourism is its expensive nature. Golf is assumed as a sport of affluent people, and is not affordable to several people, which is the major constraint in the growth of the golf tourism sector.

Golf Tourism: Outlook
New venues in host location will create promising opportunities in the golf tourism sector in the future. Creating a resource pool of local event makers and golf ambassadors is likely to attract future golf events which will automatically grow the golf tourism sector in future. Direct involvement of central and local government in such events will create an opportunity for robust growth in golf tourism.

The article Five best golf swing tips for beginners first appeared in TravelDailyNews International.

]]>
Golf is an exciting and worthwhile sport; however, many beginners struggle at the onset of learning the game, especially when swinging a club. There's a good reason why novice golfers look up to the champions. The pros have excellent swings, which come from years of dedicated practice.

As a beginner, you must also improve your golf swings to become a better player. Whether you're learning on your own or with a trainer, there are certain things you have to remember as you practice. Here are the best and most crucial tips you need to apply to improve your golf swing.

Practice in a range for beginners
It's important to note that not all golf courses are built equally. Some are meant for professional golfers, while others are ideal for first-timers. If you want to practice your swings without distraction or intimidation, look for a driving range for novice golfers.

A beginner-friendly driving range like Rich River Range usually has a flexible schedule so golfers can practice anytime they want. They may also have a shop where you can buy or rent clubs. If you're lucky, some ranges might have available coaches to guide beginners should they need help. When the place you're in has them, take the advantage of asking for advice to improve your swinging form.

Keep your grip steady
A good grip on your golf club can affect your shots. In golf, there are grip styles that beginners must know. These include:

 • the weak grip
 • the neutral grip
 • the strong grip

Since you're a beginner, you should get used to the neutral grip first. As you get better, you can choose among the grip styles depending on their pros and cons.

Remember to hold the club from the side, not underneath it. The club's handle should rest in your palm from the bottom of your index finger to your hand's heel pad for maximum comfort and control.

A proper club grip helps you swing and hit balls with more power and precision. You'll also be more likely to play for extended periods without getting injuries.

Focus on stance and posture
Fundamentals are called such because they serve as the rules for a particular activity or idea. Almost all sports have these foundations to ensure you perform the necessary actions correctly and avoid causing injuries to yourself. How you address the ball in this sport will affect how you hit it.

Your golfing stance requires your feet to stand shoulder-width apart and your knees slightly bent. The distance of your feet depends on the club's length, so adjust as needed. Extend your lead foot a bit to have a smoother downswing.

The proper swinging posture requires your back to be straight and flat. As much as possible, don't slouch. Then, tilt your hips and bend them instead of your waist when you lean forward to address the ball. As you do this, your knees should still be in their bent position.

Practice swinging while in the proper stance and posture. Make sure to maintain this position until it becomes second nature to you when you hold a golf club. If done right, you'll be performing stronger and more accurate hits in no time.

Practice your tempo
The best part about playing in a driving range is that you don't have to worry about getting hole-in-ones yet. You can practice to your heart's content until you're ready to go professional. So, while in the range, take as much time as you need to get used to swinging different types of clubs and improve your tempo

Tempo is a vital element in golf shots that you must remember if you want to improve. To understand why it's important, look at pro golfers in tournaments. Observe how they don't rush their swings and hits. Most professional golfers follow a 3:1 ratio when swinging. Their backswings are three times longer than their downswings. Even if they change their swing speed, the ratio remains the same.

If you want to be as good as your golf idols, imitate their swing ratio. Practice with a tennis racket if needed, so you'll also get used to positioning the club face away from you in the backswing. As you swing down, the face should point at the ball directly. Then, when you swing up, it should be pointing behind you.

Address your swing issues accordingly
Beginners don't always get the moves right the first time, which is expected. So, don't feel bad if you can't master the perfect standing and swinging posture yet. As long as you dedicate time to practice and fix your specific golfing problems, you'll become a better athlete eventually.

Many novice golfers make errors while practicing, especially if they're on their own. The most common mistakes include the following:

 • Slicing the driver
 • Topping or thinning the top of the ball
 • Fatting or hitting the ball fat
 • Shanking or hitting near the toe or heel

You can take a video of yourself as you practice or have a friend watch you swing. That way, you'll know what you're doing wrong and adjust according to the error.
If you need more guidance, a coach is your best bet. They'll help you pinpoint your swing issues and provide the techniques to curb them. Watching professional golfers online or on sports streaming channels also helps. This is a great way to keep learning even if you're not on the range.

Conclusion
Before you get swinging at a driving range, take a deep breath. Many mistakes happen when you anticipate them and keep a negative mindset. As an athlete, you must not only show sportsmanship with other golfers but must also exercise it even with yourself.

Bad shots are part of the game, and you can increase your rate of good shots by continuously practicing your swings.

In a statement released, David Todd, Event Manager of IGTM said: “In order to provide our attendees with the best possible event experience and environment to do business in, selecting the location and amenities is our priority. We have made the decision to choose La Nuvola based on its adaptability, location and modern facilities launching just six years ago. We are now confident La Nuvola will meet our event’s and all our attendees’ expectations.”

The global golf tourism market size is projected to reach US $14,570 million by 2027[1], and IGTM brings the industry together to build business further as international travel booms once again.

Exhibitors, buyers, and the media will join forces for four days of pre-scheduled meetings, networking, and the annual IGTM Golf Day. Marco Simone Golf & Country Club (the official location of the 2023 Ryder Cup), Castelgandolfo, Golf Nazionale, and Olgiata Golf Club are the legendary golf courses that participants will have the chance to play.

Destinations already signed up for this year’s event include Morocco, Tunisia, and South Africa.

Commenting on their participation, David Connellan, Golf & Outdoors Activities, Tourism Ireland said: “Golf is vital to the growth of the Irish tourism industry, and we see IGTM 2022 vital in allowing our partners to showcase the best of Irish golf. IGTM places the best of buyers in front of our partners allowing them to highlight their offerings to the best quality audiences in a B2B setting.”

Phil Arger, Commercial Manager, Golf-Drives commented: “IGTM Rome will be the perfect platform to meet our core B2B market decision-makers face to face after what has been an incredibly challenging few years. We expect Rome to be the event that marks an end to the staggered recovery and a chance to really put the foot on the gas again in golf travel.”

Olivier Odin, Business Unit Operator, Play Golf in France and Co-founder & CEO, Private Golf Key commented: "I have been taking part in IGTM for 15 years and it is a must golf trade show to enhance our golf tourism business. Outside of our meetings, the networking is not to be missed. I can't wait to be in Roma in October 2022!"
